My role was key to co-ordinating system installation, obtaining permitting, monitoring system performance and optimising the system to ensure most efficient and cost effective use. Close co-ordination with the site team was crucial to ensure that the key data was collected to inform decision making in system operation, maintenance and optimisation, so we were on site at least every two weeks.

Being on the South Wales coast, RAF St Athan is exposed to more than its fair share of rainfall and gales and there have been numerous days when the weather conditions have not been favourable. Unfortunately site work can not be done from the site cabin so you have to don your weatherproofs and face it.

The effectiveness of remediation systems is never guaranteed so it was particularly satisfying to demonstrate successful remediation of the groundwater to below the agreed remediation target concentrations, obtain sign-off from the EA and see all the years of work and planning was coming to fruition on start-up day.

It was great to be involved on a project of such scale that was so technically challenging.
